Late goals from Raja Abuljebain and Hani Jabsheh helped El Basha assert themselves against a strong Al Faisal-PBS team in the showpiece match of the 2023 Patrons Cup at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club recently. The match involved players from various top polo clubs in the UAE including Habtoor Polo, Al Faisal Polo, AM Polo, Hesketh Polo, and Dubai Wolves.
And while Tomas Iriarte of El Basha put El Basha in front, scoring in the first chukker itself, the second chukker witnessed Al Faisal-PBS fighting back to draw level through Petra Spanko.
The teams entered the fourth and final chukker after the third period failed to produce any goals despite the action being top-class.
But it was El Basha who got stronger as the game progressed and, after Abuljebain and Jabsheh scored, it was game over as Al Faisal-PBS did not seem likely of levelling or even reducing the deficit and succumbed to a tame 3-1 defeat leaving El Basha to lift the trophy.
Lukas Tremmel, General Manager of the Al Habtoor Polo Resort, presented awards to the teams, with El Basha’s Jabsheh recognised as the Most Valuable Player of the game. Additionally, during the half-time break, guests had the chance of winning AED6,000 in gifts. Winners were awarded vouchers from La Perle, as well as services from Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Al Habtoor Polo Club.
